I personally use these Large Squid Jigs, manufactured by Sea Harvester Tackle For catching huge Squid from the Abyss, (Using an Electric Reel) While we have a sword bait down, and often catch a fresh live squid to put back down as a livey for a sword.
Also when bluenose fishing, and we catch fresh squid bait for the bottom fishing, and of coarse take some home for eating, The larger Arrow squid that are common in the deep are vey tasty when cleaned up, and cooked properly.
Just let them absorb some sunlight, drop them down, I normally stop them before the bottom (as you can when watching the depth meter on the electric) and then start bringing it back up slowly while watching the rodtip, and speed it up a bit every so often then just edge it again, and you will see the the tip dip when one strikes, and put the power up, and wallah, fresh (bloody Big squid) on the boat. Have a bin or bucket (large) at the ready, so you don't end up with ink all over the boat.
