THE NEW 2022 ABYSS RODS HAVE BEEN TOTALLY REDESIGNED BY THE TEAM AT SHIMANO TO TACKLE EVEN THE LARGEST OFFSHORE SPECIES.  
All four jig models have new upgraded blank actions to make them more forgiving on the angler, meanwhile the game rods have been upgraded to feature full alloy Neptune Adjustable butts giving the angler the choice of either bent or straight options at the push of a button. All models are built with T45 blank technology and top-quality Fuji and AFTCO components re-enforcing their reputation of being tough enough for day in day out charter boat fishing or any other hard working offshore application.

I personally use the Shimano Abyss 80-130lb Bent Butt rod matched up with a Shimano Beastmaster 12000 Electric Reel for my deep drop fishing excursions and find them very sensitive, yet powerful.
This rod is forgiving to the angler, yet brutal on the fish. Makes the job of winding up fish out of 450m - 600m a lot easier than it is otherwise if using a broomstick rod.
My recommendation as to quality and practicality is 10 out of 10
