Kilwell Power Play Slimline 13'6" Surf Rod
For over 70 years KILWELL has provided New Zealand surfcasters with purpose designed rods to suit our rugged local conditions and hard fighting fish species. From the early days of Rangoon canes through to tubular fibreglass and on into the space age materials of carbon fibre and its composite variations our rod designers have been at the forefront of manufacturing rods that perform to the high expectations of Kiwi anglers. Now, in the new millennium, we have combined all of our years of rod manufacturing experience and know-how into the stunning new POWERPLAY range of 15 models of state of the art surfcasting rods.
The POWERPLAY Surf series utilises the latest technological advances in blank materials and top quality componentry sourced from the world's finest manufacturers. All blanks have been specially designed and are handcrafted in our Rotorua factory and then made into rods by our team of skilled and experienced rod builders. Within the POWERPLAY Series you will find separate ranges that cover the spectrum of blank materials and design and offer all anglers the choice of a quality rod built by rod crafters who know and fish our coastline.

SLX SERIES
When our POWERPLAY rod designers looked at the rod models available at the time they quickly decided that it was time for surfcasting to move into the space age-the result was the SLX Slimline series of three models. They started with specially designed carbon graphite blanks that had a slimmer profile and jaw breaking power and then added a butt section of a revolutionary aluminium integrated woven fibre called Texalium. The resultant blanks are not just slim and light but have the inbuilt power to tame the toughest mega snapper, hoodlum kingfish or stubborn stingray.
The guides and tip rings on the fixed spool models feature the diamond hard ceramic centres that the toughest conditions and fish demand while the free spool version is fitted with Industrial Hard Chrome stainless steel XBG. To complement these we added the best quality GRP bodied cushion hood reel seats. Our non-slip grip system will not fade, crack or crumble even after years of use and has the added advantage of being easy to clean. It puts you in direct contact with the rod blank and provides a sensitivity and control unmatched by any other grip system. To cover different beach conditions where it is critical to keep the line from a set rod out of the waves we increased the overall rod lengths and produced two models in easily transportable three piece configurations for those who do the hard yards over rough country before reaching their fishing possies. All SLX Slimline rods come with a cloth rod bag and our unique fish measure, which is permanently epoxied, to the rod blank.
